The life of this site

The first thing I want to do is explain the lack of updates. I'm not trying to be the guy with excuses, but there has been a reason for the absence in my blog.

For those of you who know me or have been following me on this site, you guys know that originally this site was built just to house a portfolio. About half a year ago, I graduated from Full Sail University down here in Orlando, FL. The focus of the site was to show my personal branding, as well as my portfolio. I decided to include a blog so that a potential employer could get a better sense of who I was. During the first two months after graduating, I was able to maintain the site fairly well, while at the same time applying to job leads.

What I didn’t think about was what would happen to the site after I got hired. Well at around the end of those first 2 months, I was lucky enough to get hired at a great place right here in my hometown. Excited and eager to prove myself at my new job, I pretty much abandoned any design related stuff I had going on outside of the work place, including this site. The days passed and I had less and less time to find things to blog about. I’ll admit, for a while I even forgot about this site, discouraged because I didn’t think I had many followers anyway.

Before I had my site, I didn’t really follow too many other blogs. I didn’t have much knowledge about how they worked, or have understanding of their purpose exactly, (at least design blogs). Well after reading through archives of various design blogs of people whom I respect and many others do too, I realized that the best ones were filled with original content. Filled with not only design, but also inspirational stuff and written experiences as well. But then there were sites with the same information being propelled from one blog to the next. Such and such did this, re-linked in a dozen different other blogs. I didn’t want to be another amateur blogger trying to get hits by re-blogging the same information from another popular blog.

What does this mean for the future of this site?

Well, I’m still inspired to share my work and the things that inspire me. I just want this blog to be more unique, containing more original content, inspiration, and experiences. Now that I’ve settled into my new job, I believe I’ll be able to have more time afterwards to share my thoughts, design, etc.

As the site starts to shift its focus from design grad’s portfolio to simply a good design blog, I’ll be updating the look of the site to match. A face-lift, refined to show the new life this site, so look forward to that.
